The mindset to deliver on ambition

Attending to the human element of ambitious work

Why Does Mindset Matter?

The dynamics between people, their mindset, is a lever for success often neglected unless something obvious is wrong. Yet when dynamics are good, teams perform better.

So shaping people's experience of work became my focus because I wanted to know how building good dynamics worked to increase the likelihood of success.

Ambition

How To Shape People's Experience of Work

Leaders can do many things to help a team perform. But for leadership efforts to stick, so they don't have to keep pushing, this is what matters.

Over Communicate The Direction

Clarity takes longer than expected, and early ideas and KPIs are often wrong. Keep the direction in dialogue, and welcome questions.

Mandate Role Holders

Leaders authorise; role holders step in and inhabit the role, apart from their personal identity. The team supports each role equally.

Uphold Lively Discourse

Make plain speaking safe, and expect it from everyone. Truths are spoken and heard rather than avoided or met with threats, so people can work through the tension that ambition creates.

Lead With Courage

Stay on the same page, share struggles, listen, and use whatever power you hold constructively. Courage lowers defensiveness and creates space for clarity.
